This trip is a sequel of the last Sumba Trip, it was subsequently planned even before we reached home after landing from Waingapu. And why not? We did have fun during those 6 days and we got along really well, in addition taking loads of stunning photos and had a wonderful road trip wandering from West Sumba to East Sumba last time.
And it was the first launch of adventure with my Sony A7Riii! So exciting!
We stayed at Arthotel Cabin, Bromo, which had a great view and only 30-40 mins drive from the destination spots. In the first evening, we headed to Kingkong hill, a very well known spot for sunrise watching, but this time, we hiked a bit, quite steep path to the spot, then ‘dry camp’ there- means without a tent.
We set up our gears and started to shoot the milky way after 11 pm, passing through midnight and waited there for the sunrise. The weather was very cold, the wind made it worse, it was freezing, but for us, the intention to get good photos beat the weather and empowered us to stand still for almost 10 hours straight. Yes! It was unbelievable!
I captured the milky way alright, but not the ideal composition as I had been imagining. But the sky was pretty clear- after foggy and cloudy for some time, and I learned to perfecting my photography techniques and getting to know my new camera better.

Did capture the sunrise, while the place was getting crowded approaching sunrise. It seemed everyone knows the spot. Just wow. Fortunately we had parked our tripods and cameras in the spots we wanted, and no one messed with that during the sunrise shoot.

We had Indomie with poached egg for breakfast then head to hotel for a more proper breakfast 🙂
